If you are looking for the best television experience available, if you prefer stereo or surround sound over mono then 3D TV is probably for you.
In our opinion 3D is a greater step in cinematic realism than colour. This may at first appear to be a bold statement, however we can think of many black and white films and shows that are every bit as impactful as those filmed in colour, Schindler's list being one of the most recent. Indeed, keen book readers would consider scenes created in the imagination to be more powerful than a flat image created on a television.
In looking at a picture, whether it’s on a TV, a photo or a painting, your brain has the ability to interpret the flat image into something that appears to be real,
with 3D the image is different and it’s as real as if you are standing in the place of the camera. Furthermore 3D gives the film maker the ability to extend realism and build in more effect, effects that extend from infinite depth almost to your face.
Some people we have spoken with find the idea of wearing dark glasses to watch their TV a little odd and are put off by the idea. However, with the 3D feature switched off, these sets are very high performance televisions with the very highest refresh rates. Therefore the glasses are only to be used when desired. That may be for movies, sports, PlayStation games or the amazing nature documentaries. We are very much looking forward to the 3D coverage of the forthcoming Olympic Games. It should be as real as being in the front row from the comfort of your living room. Whatever you choose to enjoy, nothing compares to the realism of 3D.
Many say they would rather wait until the technology is available to enjoy 3D television without glasses. This technology exists now and is called Autostereoscopic 3D. This has been built in to televisions but is more commonly used in small screen games such as the Nintendo 3DS. The major television manufacturers we have spoken with all recommend active shutter glasses as the best way to create full high definition 3D. We have seen an Autosteroscopic 3D TV, whilst it is interesting to see a 3D image on TV without glasses, the resolution is poor and the optics on the television make the viewing position for 3D and 2D very limited. Therefore unless you have a room with very precisely positioned seating this is probably not the best solution.
Another common question is whether to choose LCD or Plasma, each technology has characteristics in its favour and both are very good. We would recommend you have a look at the displays in our showroom and decide for yourself which is best solution for you.
There is certainly no shortage of content now for 3D, new 3D movies are advertised all the time and Sky has a channel dedicated to 3D. This channel is available to Sky World customers at no extra charge. We understand the BBC has now successfully tested their 3D transmissions. YouTube and other Internet video streaming companies are also behind 3D.
What is in our opinion the best bit, is 3D Photography. Whether you are taking video of a party, a still photograph whilst on holiday or a sports event,
nothing compares to looking back on the memory as real as being there again. There is plenty of scope for fun with the technology. For example, if filming a children’s party,
ask your child to stand one and a half meters from the camera and raise an arm toward the camera, when played back on a 3D TV the child’s arm will be seen to reach out from the screen. 3D photography is so much more than just about fun, it’s about capturing realism and re-creating it as if you are there again.
Finally the price, understandably 3D equipment carries a premium tag. However it’s not necessarily that great a step and no more than a good TV or Digital camera would have cost a few years ago. Also 3D equipment is generally top of the range with many other advanced features such as Internet TV, We therefore believe it is well worth the extra.
